The REMIND Therapy ® approach is a holistic integrative psychotherapy model designed for occupational therapists working psychotherapeutically.

REMIND Therapy ® is an acronym which stands for:

R-Routine,

E-Exercise,

M-Mindfulness,

I-Invest in self and others,

N-Nature,

D-Diet.

It was during the Covid Pandemic in 2000 when the initial concept of REMIND Therapy ® was first conceived. As an integrative psychotherapist with core training in occupational therapy, Dr Lynda Foulder-Hughes wanted an evidenced based framework on which she could support her own patients and clients at that time.

The Covid period was unprecedented in terms of uncertainty. Many people globally were suffering from anxiety and panic due to the unsafe and unpredictable nature of the Pandemic. It was a time of brutal isolation in which old traumas resurfaced for people. Those with underlying mental health difficulties experienced an escalation in their symptoms. For Dr Foulder-Hughes, working throughout the Covid period, she wanted a psychotherapeutic framework which people could adopt and apply in their everyday lives, which made them feel safer, more in control and offered them genuine hope.

Following the Pandemic Dr Foulder-Hughes built upon her original REMIND framework embedding the concept into her ongoing practice, followed by the publication of her self-help book "Remind the Prescription of Happiness, Success, and Fulfilment in Life" which was published in 2023.

REMIND Therapy® draws multimodally and integratively, upon strategies and evidenced based psychotherapeutic approaches including: humanistic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), compassion focussed therapy (CFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution focused therapy (SFT), mindfulness, humanistic counselling, somatic therapy, metaphysical approaches and transpersonal counselling.

Each of the core concepts of REMIND Therapy ® (routine, exercise, mindfulness, invest in self and others, nature, and diet) and the underpinning psychotherapeutic modalities of REMIND have in themselves a singularly good evidence base in terms of improving mental wellbeing. However, individually, there is not a "one size fits all" approach which works for everyone.

Each person is unique, and so is their experience of trauma and mental health. REMIND Therapy ® can be used in a more holistic, and integrative way by providing a framework to recover and live, which can be utilised flexibly depending upon the person’s needs and experiences. At the core is an occupationally focused, person-centred base, one on which the essence of psychotherapeutic occupational therapy sits.

Therefore, REMIND Therapy ® is an ideal holistic psychotherapy modality for occupational therapists to embed within their scope of practice. Due to its holistic nature REMIND Therapy® can also be utilised alongside other psychotherapeutic modalities. REMIND Therapy® views every person as a unique individual with potential to recover from past trauma, and to reclaim, and live their lives in the present, as their authentic selves, whilst also having hope in the future.
